Cheap and Fast Lunch in Carwell
By Bill Hutchison on Dec 3, 2007 in Australia, Dining
My wife and I just drove through Carwell, Queensland on our way back from a long weekend in Cairns. We had lunch in Carwell on our way there and back at the same place, the Cardwell Hot Bread located right on the Bruce Highway.
On our way up through Cardwell I had a Steak and Mushroom meat pie an on the way back I had a Steak, Bacon, Tomato and Cheese pie. The Steak and Mushroom pie I had at the Cardwell Hot Bread was fantastic but the second pie was average. I think that it was probably too late in the day (2:30 pm) for the pie to be fresh, especially with the tomato in it.
Lunch in Cardwell for my wife and I only cost $9.40, including a pie each and we split an orange juice. Pretty good value, especially if you get there early enough that the pies and pasties are fresh.
